Updates to EA Peak Rainfall Climate Change Allowances
In May 2022 the Environment Agency (EA) updated the peak rainfall allowances to be considered by developments.
Previously, for England, peak rainfall allowances were provided at a national scale; these are now provided locally on a ‘management catchment’ basis. Refer to example EA Catchment map for the ‘Avon Bristol & North Somerset Streams’ catchment above.
EA Guidance on how to apply the peak rainfall allowances has also been updated with different allowances to be applied depending on the proposed development lifetime.
The changes in peak rainfall allowances will affect both the assessment of pluvial flood risk as well as proposed SuDS solutions for all types of development.
